Quarter Life Crisis [Sep. 6th, 2005|01:47 pm]
A friend of mine emailed this to me & it made me smile...

Being Twenty-something - they call it the "Quarter-life Crisis. It
is when you stop going along with the crowd and start realising
that there are many things about yourself that you didn't know and
may not like.

You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year
or two, but then get scared because you barely know where you are
now.

You start realising that people are selfish and that, maybe, those
friends that you thought you were so close to aren't exactly the
greatest people you have ever met, and the people you have lost
touch with are some of the most important ones.

What you don't recognise is that they are realising that too, and
aren't really cold, catty, mean or insincere, but that they are as
confused as you.

You look at your job ... and it is not even close to what you
thought you would be doing, or maybe you are looking for a job and
realizing that you are going to have to start at the bottom and
that scares you.

Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing
and find yourself judging more than usual because suddenly you
realise that you have certain boundaries in your life and are
constantly adding things to your list of what is acceptable and
what isn't.

One minute, you are insecure and then the next, secure. You laugh
and cry with the greatest force of your life. You feel alone and
scared and confused. Suddenly, change is the enemy and you try and
cling on to the past with dear life, but soon realise that the
past is drifting further and further away, and there is nothing to
do but stay where you are or move forward.

You get your heart broken and wonder how someone you loved could
do such damage to you. Or you lie in bed and wonder why you can't
meet anyone decent enough that you want to get to know better. Or
maybe you love someone but love someone else too and cannot figure
out why you are doing this because you know that you aren't a bad
person. One night stands and random hook ups start to look cheap.
Getting wasted and acting like an idiot don't seem as fun.

You go through the same emotions and questions over and over, and
talk with your friends about the same topics because you cannot
seem to make a decision. You worry about loans, money, the future
and making a life for yourself...
and while winning the race would be great, right now you'd just like
to be a contender! What you may not realise is that everyone reading
this relates to it. We are in our best of times and our worst of times,
trying as hard as we can to figure this whole thing out.

Pass this to your twenty-something friends... maybe it will help
someone feel like they aren't alone in their state of confusion...
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the
moments that take our breath away." It's really amazing when two
Strangers become the best of friends, but it is really sad when
the best of friends become two strangers.

Man's best friend. [Jul. 11th, 2005|12:36 pm]

On the weekend just past Justyne, MJ & myself went to a friend's holiday house at Mt Hotham for a relaxing weekend away. We got up there late Friday night & woke up early Saturday morning to head up the Mountain. We left MJ in the house with some food, her favorite toys & a big old bone. It had been quite awhile since i'd been snow boarding & i was never much chop at it, needless to say i spent bulk of the morning doing cartwheels & laying flat on my back staring at the sky.1-ish we stopped for lunch & gave friends who's arrival at the house we were expecting a call to fore warn them that MJ was in the house. The house we were staying in was small & close to the road. I was concerned that MJ, being the opportunist that she is would make a dash out the door as soon as it was opened. Our friends were still a good 4 hours away.

After lunch i decided i wanted to try a black run, this was insane as i could barely manage a green run that is designed for kids. Never the less the people we were with entertained the idea & had a laugh at my expense as i tumbled down the run, continually having to lift myself out of 65cm of powder. By the time i got down to the chair lifts i was knackered & all in wanted was a beer. Sitting there in the bar having a couple of beers i continued to voice my concern for MJ, so much so i imagine everyone i was with, barr Justyne,  must of been sick of hearing about it.

By the time we were ready to leave a blizzard had kicked in. The road down was narrow with a mountain wall on one side & cliff drop of the other. We couldn't see past the front of the bonnet, our only navigation was via the faint brakes of the car in front.  Justyne & i sat in the back seat of the 4x4 we were in with our faith in the driver. Once again we spoke about MJ & Justyne rang our friends to check there eta. Only 10 mins away, they would take MJ out for a wee when they got there. The drive down took an hour longer than what it should of been. When we arrived at the house our friends were standing out the front. My stomach tied it self in knot seeing them standing there as i knew something had happen. Justyne had the same feeling & broke into tears instantly as it was announced to us that MJ was dead. She had been hit by a car. From what we can gather she had got loose from her lead & ran. She wouldn't of seen the car as they didn't exist in her world. She was running because she thought it was a game & the on coming car just happen to be there. See died instantly, we suspect brain damage as psychically see looked fine. Through a puddle of tears we buried her under a tree near a creek behind the house. she would like it there, alot of open space.

Very little sleep was had that night, at one stage between sleep & consciousness i felt  a little weight at my feet. I reached down for a pat only to discover it was a balled up bit of blanket. Reality kicks in & the tears flow freely. We left early the next morning, i drove 4 hours through tear filled vision. i think thats when it really hit us both, driving home without our little girl. Without my best bud. We are both heart broken & going to miss her so much, the little things like her sitting outside the shower waiting for you to get out, being in the car with me while i work, sharing a meat pie or popcorn chicken, her head on your shoulder while watching tv, sitting at table while playing poker, & greeting you at door everytime you got home. She was our little ball of excitement that could always bring a smile to your face regardless of day you had had. Justyne & i are going to miss her dearly as she touched us as well as anyone that had ever met her with her happy go lucky personality & unconditional love .

MaryJane, Rest in Peace.

hi-de-ho!! [Aug. 24th, 2004|06:11 pm]

what the... are ljs back in fashion?? you don't  hear boo from anyone on here for agers then bang!, everyone posts within one day. so how the hell is everyone? good. excellent. i am freakin great. i have just had 4 days off which was spent on a romantic getaway to tasmania with my girlfriend, the ever so lovely justyne. i have never been to tassie before & i must say it is bloody beautiful. i don't know of many place were you can drive from snowy mountains to sunny beaches within an hour, & the views everywhere you go are so pictureques. here are some photos. we stayed at lemonthyme lodge in a luxury wilderness spa cabin which had a fire place, spa with a view, kingsize bed & large lounge area w/ tv & stereo. very nice indeed. whilst in tassie we saw hellboy. very impressive much better than i expected. what made this movie differ from other comic book movies is,

1) they didn't waste time developing the characters, this was done in the first 10minutes prior to the opening credits,

2) because of the first reason this movie was action packed from start to finish,

3) the movie follows the comics dark origins quiet well.

all in all i thought it was fan-freakin-tastic. i'll definetly be seeing it again.

got back last night. flying into melbourne at night is macnificent. all the lights... today was spent trying to get myself an xbox. i went to northlands thinking i would do the rounds & see were i can the best deal. turns out no one has any in stock. i'm told theres a world wide shortage & there wouldn't be an aust shipment for atleast a month... this bummed me out a little but what can you do. so i head down to northcote plaza to get my hair cut. whilst there i decided to try my luck at kmart  & they had one left in stock. gold! when then chick brought it out it was one of those limited edition clear ones, wicked... i'm stoked!!! by the end of the week i'll have it modded & a 250g hd slapped in it so i can take round to mandy's on poker sunday to suck his xbox dry...

as mentioned earlier i've had 4 days off & the joy of having 4 days is only having to work 3 & its the weekend again... yay!! my plans for this weekend are, on saturday i will be building my poker table with me bro. simmo makes portable massage tables for a living so our table is to be based loosely on same blue print, so it will have adjustable legs & fold in half... sort of like a big brief case. this will be brillant  as i'll proply be dragging the sucker round to mandy new joint most of the time. if its done by sunday i'll bring it round & we can run two tables... should have a $5 - $10 buy in me thinks...
